Chris Wood
Hello! My name is Chris Wood (@Chriswood415) and I am a 9-12 counselor at Don Bosco Catholic High School in Gilbertville, IA as well as the School Counseling Graduate Student Chair for the Iowa School Counselors Association (ISCA). It was nearly 3 years ago when I met a school counselor at Westwood High School in Mesa, Arizona who embodied the attitude and spirit I knew I wanted to have not only in my daily job routine but throughout my life. Her passion to advocate, encourage, engage and lead her high school students was so inspiring, I immediately drew the conclusion that I was going to be a counselor and make a difference in EVERY students life. Thank you to Mrs. Yvette Rangel at Westwood for inspiring me.
Fast forward to today, I find myself following in that counselors footsteps closely, currently only a few classes away from completing my M.A. in School Counseling from the University of Northern Iowa. Prior to attending UNI, I received my B.A. in Communication Arts with an emphasis in Public Relations and a Minor in Business Administration at Wartburg College (I know, real counseloresque, right...). It turned out I met Mrs. Rangel while working full-time at Wartburg College, as an Admissions Counselor, where I found my true passion in helping the younger generation. In addition to attaining my M.A., I have had the opportunity to travel the country working with high school students, counselors, parents, teachers and so many others to make dreams turn to realities.
In addition to working closely with school counselors in the highly underrated state of Iowa, I have led and co-moderated #SCCHAT topics on Lesson Plans for School Counselors as well as Promoting Your School Counseling Program. I look forward to actively participating and growing school counselor awareness with #SCCROWD
